Natural Cooling For Your Home Tip #3

With the weather so hot these days, here are some cost effective ways to keep your homes cool naturally. Not only will you be saving on your electricty bills, you'll be doing your part by not adding to the problem of global warming. ;)

Windows

Place sun control cover at your windows to reduce both light and heat in your homes. Adding blinds and shades will make a big difference to the temperature inside your house on warm days.

You may also add a window film to reduce the sun rays and glare coming into your home too.

And if you stay in a landed property, you may want to add a tree or some shrubs in your garden to provide some shade and coolness.

Appliances

Not much thougths are usually placed on our electrical appliances but many do add heat to the homes.

Switch the electrical appliances off when not in use
Select energy efficient appliances to reduce heat
Limiting the amount of cooking done on stovetop, using microwave will produce less heat

Fan

Use a poryable fan instead of siwthing on your air-conditioning to save electricity. And you can bring the fan along to whichever rooms you're in and place it close to you.

Humidity

Humidity is a big issue in our country and to reduce it, mid day wasking should be avoided unless you're hanging it outside your house.

Decorate On A smaller Budget Tip #2

It can be quite costly to do up every room in your house in country style. To save some dollars, here are some ways to go about it without too much expense.

1) Decide on what is the most important item for each room and spend the bulk of your budget on these items. And if well chosen, the furniture will stand out and give character to the room.

2) Paint the walls of the rooms in neutral colours like white or cream. It will be easier to accessorize the room and the home furnishing items will stand out more against a clean background.

3) If you prefer not to have plain looking walls, use stencils and sponge instead of using of expensive wallpapers.

4) Opt to go without curtains to save on expensive curtain fabrics. To make the window view a little more country, go over the window aluminium frame with glossy white paint.

5) Paint the door frames white to give a more country look too.

6) Shop for old furnitures and other home furnishing items at the many on-going sales or at garage sales. The damaged parts can be covered with paint or some country cloth.

7) By simplifying the interior of the house you can keep the budget to a minimal. The rooms will also have a cleaner and fresher look. Add more character by selecting inexpensive yet functional small furnishing items like those from Kales Closet.

Country Style Decoration Tip #1

When we think of country style home decoration, we may visualize a room full cluttered with small printed flowers. But this doesn't have to be so.

Here are a few tips to weave in country decoration to a modern looking house to keep it classic and simple looking.

The aim is to keep the place looking fresh and elegant with a touch of country warmth.

1) Use neutral and bright colours like white and light beige on walls and bigger furniture items. If you wish to play with other colours, keep to light pale shades like pale yellow and light apple green.

2) Add some jazz to the other furniture or draperies by adding a touch of bright and strong colours like red, pink or blue. Be careful not to overdo it and keep the strong colours to a minimum.

3) If strong bold colours are what you really love and you must absolutely have them on your walls, keep the furniture clean like having them all in white.

4) To achieve the worn effect, the translucent glaze can be added to the freshly painted wall.

5) To fully embrace the country feel, throw open the window or draw the curtains to allow sunshine and some breeze into the home!
